Overview
The Hydra is an intelligent stereo slave amplifier having exactly the same topology as the Tucana. Used singly or in pairs, the Hydra has many roles:
* As either a stereo or bridged mono power amp, used in conjunction with the Pyxis preamplifer
* As a LIPS® slave amplifier the Hydra is able to mirror the Tucana to drive the surround channels in a 5.1 or 7.1 home cinema system of uncompromised audiophile quality.
* As a LIPS® slave amplifier used with the Tucana to bi-amp in stereo or multi-channel systems.
Where the application requires, the input selection and volume controls tracks that of the controlling amplifier via LIPS® with the level indicated by the sophisticated volume display.
Using the same heart as the Tucana, the Hydra is comfortable driving even the most awkward loads. The groundbreaking dual mono design uses three heavy-duty toroidal power transformers, one for each channel and one for the control circuitry. This coupled with a refined bi-polar output stage of which each channel can swing over fifty amps of current, ensures a vice-like grip and precise control of the loudspeakers.
